MagJack basics
What is an RJ45 MagJack?
An RJ45 MagJack is an RJ45 jack with the Ethernet isolation transformer and common-mode chokes built into the connector housing. The magnetics isolate the cable from the PHY and suppress common-mode noise. IEEE 802.3 calls for 1500 Vrms isolation at this interface for 10/100/1000 Base-T.
MagJack (integrated magnetics)
The transformer and chokes sit inside the jack shell. A MagJack saves board area, keeps the pairs short between jack and PHY, and removes the transformer-to-jack routing from the layout.
Integrated RJ45 connectors →RJ45 jack + discrete magnetics
A plain RJ45 jack is paired with a separate transformer on the board. The designer chooses the magnetics independently and can place them anywhere between the PHY and the connector.

For design engineers
How to confirm a drop-in RJ45 jack equivalent
A cross-reference is a starting point. These eight checks decide whether a replacement jack drops onto an existing board without a layout change.
Footprint
Pin pitch, pin count including LED and shield pins, and mounting-post positions.
Magnetics schematic
Centre-tap arrangement and choke position must suit the PHY (voltage-mode or current-mode).
Speed grade
10/100 Base-T uses two pairs; gigabit and multi-gigabit use all four.
PoE tier
The magnetics must carry the per-pair current of 802.3af, 802.3at or 802.3bt.
LEDs
Colour, count and pin assignment, since the host PHY drives them.
Latch and orientation
Tab up or down, right-angle or vertical, and the panel cut-out.
Shielding
EMI fingers set the chassis-bezel grounding path and the cut-out tolerance.
Temperature grade
Commercial 0 to +70 °C or industrial -40 to +85 °C.

Technical FAQs
Common questions from procurement and engineering teams.
Who manufactures RJ45 MagJacks in Taiwan?
TeleWire Technology manufactures RJ45 MagJacks and other PCB-mount modular jacks in Taiwan. The catalogue covers more than 560 part numbers from 10/100 Base-T to 10GBase-T, with PoE to PoE++ versions and industrial-temperature options.
What is the difference between a MagJack and an RJ45 jack with discrete magnetics?
A MagJack builds the Ethernet isolation transformer and common-mode chokes into the jack housing, saving board area. A jack with discrete magnetics uses a separate transformer on the board, which lets the designer choose the magnetics independently.
Can TeleWire Technology replace a discontinued or allocated RJ45 jack?
Yes. 421 TeleWire Technology jacks cross-reference to parts from 23 brands, including Bel Fuse, Halo, Pulse and TE Connectivity. Send the part number and TeleWire Technology's engineering team replies within 24 hours with the matching part and drawing.
